Park Fees
Starting Saturday May 27, 2017 thru September 4, 2017 (peak season), vehicle parking fees will increase to $10 per vehicle at the South Yuba River State Park Bridgeport river crossing and Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. This fee is consistent with the other park units in the Sierra District.
Vehicle parking fees will be $5 per vehicle from September 5, 2017 – May 25, 2018 at both park locations.
A parking fee of $5 per day was added in 2012 to provide income and help keep the park open. The fee applies to the main and north parking lots. Parking along Pleasant Valley Road is not permitted. A self-service depository is located in the northeast corner of the main lot. During high-use hours in the summer, a kiosk is staffed with park personnel, and a depository is available for other hours.

THE VISITOR CENTER IS OPEN THURSDAY - SUNDAY FROM MEMORIAL DAY TO LABOR DAY, 11AM – 4PM.
THE REST OF THE YEAR, THURS – SUN, 11AM – 3PM.

Bridgeport
ON PLEASANT VALLEY RD, 8 MILES NORTH OF HWY 20 IN PENN VALLEY.
FROM SACRAMENTO / SAN FRANCISCO
Take I-80 East toward Reno. In Auburn, take Hwy 49 North (left) for 22 miles. In Grass Valley take Hwy 20 West (left) for 8 miles. Turn right (North) on Pleasant Valley Rd. for 8 miles. There are 2 parking lots - 1 immediately before the bridge on the left, and 1 immediately after the bridge on the right.
FROM RENO
Take I-80 West to Hwy 20. Turn right (west) onto Hwy 20 and drive 39 miles to just past downtown Grass Valley. Turn right from the freeway (West) to remain on Hwy 20 for 8 more miles. Turn right (North) on Pleasant Valley Rd. for 8 miles. There are 2 parking lots - 1 immediately before the bridge on the left, and 1 immediately after the bridge on the right.
FROM YUBA CITY / MARYSVILLE
From the intersection of Hwy 70 and Hwy 20, take Hwy 20 East for 18 miles. Turn left (North) on Pleasant Valley Rd. for 8 miles. There are 2 parking lots - 1 immediately before the bridge on the left, and 1 immediately after the bridge on the right.
Highway 49 Crossing & Independence Trail
5 MILES NORTH OF NEVADA CITY.
PARK HOURS AT 49 CROSSING ARE SUNRISE TO SUNSET. NO PARKING 10PM-6AM.
FROM SACRAMENTO / SAN FRANCISCO
Take I-80 east toward Reno. In Auburn, take Hwy 49 north 25 miles. Pass through Grass Valley / Nevada City and turn left to remain on Hwy 49 for another 7 miles. There are 2 parking areas for the Independence Trail about 1/2 mile before the river crossing on the right. The parking lot for 49 Crossing is immediately before the bridge on the right.
FROM RENO
Take I-80 west to Hwy 20. Turn right (west) onto Hwy 20, proceed for 27 miles until you just enter Nevada City. Turn right (north) onto Hwy 49, proceed for 7 miles. There are 2 parking areas for the Independence Trail about 1/2 mile before the river crossing on the right. The parking lot for 49 Crossing is immediately before the bridge on the right.
FROM YUBA CITY / MARYSVILLE

Edwards Crossing

FROM SACRAMENTO /SAN FRANCISCO
Take I-80 East toward Reno. In Auburn, take Hwy 49 north 28 miles. Turn left in Nevada City to remain on Hwy 49 another 2.5 miles. Turn left on Newtown Rd. for about 3 miles. Turn right on Jones Bar Rd. and follow about 4 miles. This becomes a steep, rough dirt road! 4 wheel drive is recommended. The road ends in a limited parking area at the river. Alternatively, you can walk down a steep 0.4 mile trail from the Independence West trail.
